Shibu-Onsen to Hiroshima
We packed up before breakfast, and I went for a little walk up the hill opposite the hotel to visit a Shinto shrine and a Buddhist temple.
For breakfast we were put in a shared room, and only had nine courses.
We were driven back to Yudanaka station in time for the 9:20 to Nagano,
then changed trains and headed out of the big valley and on to Nagoya. On the way we passed Matsumoto, the home of the musical Suzuki.
We were befriended by a small 2yr old called Hidemasa.
We rolled along at about 84kph beside a very rocky river through the mountains,

past timber mills and terraced rice paddies. At Nagoya, we picked up a Shinkansen for ShinOsaka, and flew along at about 215kph. Quite a difference, hey? There we didn't even have to change platforms, but just waited for the next train which brought us, still through lots of tunnels, but also past flat, green paddies, to Hiroshima by 17:00.
We found our hostel quite easily, about 5min walk from the station. This is real hostel, with a real kitchen, so we went off to the supermarket and spent ages trying to decide on real meat, real vegies, and the other things we have been missing. We cooked up our own dinner, and are now doing our usual evening thing.
