Hiroshima to Fukuoka

We packed up after breakfast, and left our bags at the hostel while we visited the Hiroshima Peace Park. We caught a tram to the Atomic Dome, which is the surviving building that was closest to the hypocentre.

We went onto the Peace Park island, rang the peace bell,

and watched as a group of high school students held a small service at the children's memorial and delivered their chains of paper cranes.

Then we went to the victims' memorial,

then to the museum. We were there for a number of hours, viewing their models, photos, relics and diaries.

There is the story of Sadako, and these are some of her paper cranes.

We got a bus back to the station, had a late lunch, raced back to the hostel to get our bags, and caught the 14:53 Shinkansen to Hakata (Fukuoka).

Along the way, the sign in the train said we were going at 286kph. Itried to take a photo of the bridge from Honshu to Kyushu, but it was a tunnel.

Steve met us at the station, and took us to our business hotel, only three doors from their building. They had by-passed it as an option, but then found that they had a big room on the roof, so this is what they booked for us.

Now we are at Steve and Kaori's shoebox, having dinner. Their apartment is second from the end, on the right hand side, top floor, so they have the additional mezzanine floor above the out-of-line window.

More blog later.

We went back home after a lovely dinner, made up our beds, and went downstairs for a Japanese shower, where there is a bath tub, and two shower hoses all in the same room, so we can shower with a friend.
